Safer Internet Day, first introduced in 2004, is now observed in more than 180 countries to promote digital safety worldwide. Originally launched as part of the EU SafeBorders initiative, it was later embraced by the Insafe network. With the increasing availability of the internet, concerns about cyber threats, data privacy, and users’ digital well-being have also grown. To foster responsible internet usage, the second Tuesday of every February is marked by global initiatives encouraging collaboration between tech companies, policymakers, educators, and individuals to create a safer online environment.
On Safer Internet Day 2025, Google reaffirmed its dedication to user security and highlighted the measures it has implemented to protect billions of users in India. The tech giant disclosed that, in 2024, it successfully thwarted fraudulent transactions on Google Pay amounting to Rs 13,000 crore.
Additionally, by utilizing AI-powered real-time detection, Google Play Store blocked over 2.36 million apps that violated its policies.
